"Intro\\Crossing the Rubicon" is a two part song, with the instrumental opener riff and a progression which leads to the main chapter "the passage". "Crossing the Rubicon" is a metaphorical expression for passing a point of no return. We strongly believe that society has passed this point of corruption, climate change etc. leading to an amoral and unequal conflict were the elite suppress the weaker. As the last line says: "This is a war? Yeah... And I'm gonna fight."
lyrics
"Intro \\ Crossing the Rubicon"
Just in case,
this is not a war,
catch your breath
for more to come.
Wash it all away,
hold your breath,
wait 'till the end,
break the chains.
Let your lost naked soul,
shine bright like a star.
All I know are empty words,
know nothing, know nothing...
Once it all begins,
let the tears,
guide your way.
Awaken,
from the dust of time,
eyes red, take a breath,
break the chains.
This is a war.
This is a war?
Yeah,
and I’m gonna fight.

This is colossal. I’ve been enjoying these guys for years but this album is next level. They seemed to have found their stride & it’s a biggin’. I feel that they’re heading into the Groove/Rock Genre of Clutch but still carry that epic, larger-than-life sound you’d expect from Zeppelin or later era Soundgarden. Their sound is tighter than a fish’s ass (and that’s water tight) & whatever these guys are doing; I’m loving it. And…the vocals are so, so, so good! I’m excited for their next outing. Harry Harrison
